Working-class organisations and popular tourism 1840-1970

Barton, Susan2013
Books, Manuscripts
This study of working class tourism examines the evolution of the English holiday over two centuries, charting workers forms of travel from 'tramping' and the 'artisan's grand tour' to day tripping and package holidays abroad. In doing so it provides an overview of how the working classes and their organisations campaigned for paid holidays.
